Electrophysiology studies allow cardiologists to precisely locate the problem areas in the heart causing rhythm disturbances. For this test, pacing catheters are inserted via the veins and arteries in the groin and fed up to the heart. Electrical activity is recorded and the rhythm pathways mapped. Some rhythm disturbances can be cured by applying radiofrequency energy via the pacing catheter to the abnormal cells. This procedure is called a catheter ablation. Dr. Rodrigues specializes in heart rhythm disorders, electrophysiology, and catheter ablation techniques. |
